Dal 1898, Alberti effettua forniture duty free in tutto il mondo, ma la storia dell'azienda triestina inizia ancora prima, si incrocia e si fonde con le vicende del principale porto dell'Impero Austro-Ungarico, affonda le sue radici nel XVIII secolo, attraversa due guerre mondiali la crisi degli anni 30 del 1900, la nascita dell'Unione Europea ed ancora oggi, la quarta generazione della famiglia, guida un azienda specializzata nelle forniture diplomatiche.
Già nel 1832 Luigi Alberti, in società con Emil Bouillon, possedeva un negozio di specialità alimentari nel centro di Trieste, all'epoca il più importante porto commerciale dell'Europa centrale. In quegli anni, la dinamicità dei traffici portuali porta alla nascita in città delle più grosse compagnie di assicurazioni e alla costituzione del Lloyd Austriaco, una delle prime società di navigazione sorte in Europa, impegnato a collegare i porti mediterranei con Asia , Africa e Australia.
La dinamicità della città e dei traffici, portò Luigi Alberti a selezionare le migliori specialità alimentari e i più pregiati vini, difficili da reperire sul mercato, delle vere rarità.
Collegate al commercio e al porto, affluiscono a Trieste genti di diverse nazionalità portando ad istituire in città numerose rappresentanze diplomatiche e consolari.
In questo contesto, nel 1898, Luigi Alberti decide di mettersi in proprio ed apre la Luigi Alberti, con l'obiettivo di rifornire proprio il corpo diplomatico in tutto il mondo. Il primo cliente diplomatico fu l'Ambasciatore Carlo Galli all'epoca Console Generale d'Italia a Trieste.
La qualità dei prodotti offerti, la difficoltà nel reperirli e l'alto livello di servizio offerto, portano i clienti a richiedere ad Alberti di provvedere alla fornitura delle sue specialità nelle diverse destinazioni nel mondo alle quali vengono assegnati.
Negli anni la società diventa Fornitrice della casa Reale di Belgrado, Provveditore della Casa Reale D'Albania, Provveditirce della Casa di S.A.R. Amedeo di Savoia Duca D'Aosta, nonché a divenire fornitore di numerose sedi diplomatiche internazionali. Tra i suoi clienti anche numerosi Nunzi Apostolici tra cui anche S.E.R. Eugenio Pacelli Nunzio a Berlino (Papa Pio XII) e S.E.R Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, Nunzio a Istanbul (Papa Giovanni XXIII).
Data la sua collocazione Alberti svolge anche l'attività di provveditoria navale, da prima fornendo le navi del Lloyd Austriaco, poi del Lloyd Triestino e attualmente fornendo le navi delle principali compagnie di navigazione che approdano nei porti dell'Alto Adriatico con provviste tecniche ed alimentari oltre che con il Duty Free.

In this context, in 1898, Luigi Alberti decided to set up his own business and opened Luigi Alberti, with the aim of supplying the diplomatic corps all over the world. The first diplomatic client was Ambassador Carlo Galli at the time Consul General of Italy in Trieste.
